What does a Process Agent do and why do you need one?

In the modern world, running a business is not easy and especially with all the strict obligations and rules to follow, it becomes quite a hectic thing to maintain. If you are in the transportation business, you have a lot of things on your table for sure. One of them is what we will be discussing today; the entire fiasco of BOC 3 form and process agents. In the United States, the entire transportation industry has is controlled by FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Administration). This is the authority that makes sure that the industry is working by following all the rules and regulations. Moreover, the important part of its job is to make sure that all businesses are legitimate in every manner. This is why every hauler company in the states has to have the BOC 3 and only a registered process agent can file that for the company.

If we had to explain a Process Agent by the definition then we can say that “a process agent is a representative of a company who provides all the legal information and documents of that company, on request by the authorities.” Similarly, BOC 3 by definition is the “legal form filed by the authority to a hauler as a permit to carry out business in different states.”

Basically, for any freight forwarder or hauler to work in states, having BOC 3 form is necessary. The process of getting a BOC 3 form is that your designated process agent will take all the necessary details of your business and submit them to FMCSA. Then, FMCSA will approve the form and hence, you will be officially allowed to operate your business in all the states that you want. And if in the future, there are any changes in the policies of the government or if any legal document of your business is required by the authorities, your process agent shall deal with it on your behalf.

The benefit of hiring a process agent is that for one, your business will be handled more efficiently with someone to take care of legal issues and two; you will be able to focus on the operational area with stability. Moreover, if there are changes in your own business, which are important to be forwarded to the authorities, your process agent will handle that part as well. He will make sure that complete and correct information is being provided to the authorities to avoid any lawsuits or interruptions in business operations.

You will have a process agent for each state in which you operate and this also includes the states you just pass through. However, you can also get blanket coverage; one process agent for all the states. This will help you save time and money; this way you will have more efficiency.
